The Smiths Guild
The Smith’s guild is the third side of the triangle of golem creation. They are the only ones who understand the complex process of lalenthrium forging. As well as forging the Soul Nets, they also forge lalenthrium foci for Thread Weavers and the Huntsmen’s protection wards. This is besides all of the day to day blacksmithing, armour smithing and weapon smithing. It is fair to say that the Smith’s Guild is indispensable to Lalenth: and well do they know it. Entry into the Smith’s guild is bought in a similar fashion to that of the Alchemists Guild. An apprenticeship costs 1gold leaf, and a child is entered at the age of 12, when they are deemed old enough to swing a hammer. The initial fee may be deferred until the pupil is qualified. It is rare that a female child enters the guild, those that do usually study to become jewellers. Only a limited number of students are taken at any time, and they are apprenticed to different members of the guild as appose to being all taught centrally. The guild’s only requirement of its members is in fact set by the Great Six as oppose to the guild itself. A guild member must accept a commission given to them by a Huntsman or militia member. Sol Fayler, a jeweller, is the current head of this guild. He is somewhat mistrusted as a smith, as he was once accused of shaving off and retaining a small amount of lalenthrium from all that which passed through his hands. The case came up in the Star Chamber and Fayler was acquitted. The judge that made this ruling coincidently inherited a large sum of money shortly afterwards. |
