The Vishreon Family
Since time immemorial the Vishreons have been responsible for the defence of Lalenth and the organising of its militia. Their house is a granite mansion with a decorative portcullis and crenulations. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by displays of weapons, flags and models of battlefields. The servants snap to attention and a military precision is maintained in all things. Surrounded by all this military paraphernalia it is easy to forget that no-one in the Vishreon family has seen martial combat for over 200 years. Even then it was little more than tribal wars. However the Vishreons are responsible for the maintaining of the Lalenth Militia and the training of its members. As such they essentially are in charge of the maintenance of law and order in the city. General Achran Vishreon, the head of the family is also the Lord High Justice of the Star Chamber. He sets all justice protocols and was the one who introduced exile from the city as a punishment. This has made him highly unpopular with the people. The general however feels that firm discipline leads to an orderly society. Although not the brightest of men, he is a great patriot who is more than willing to make unpopular decisions “for the stability of our great city, which without a law abiding and co-operative society could never withstand the external threats”. Anyone who stands still long enough will hear the general’s opinions on topics such as this. Despite his pompous posing however, it must be noted that crime in Lalenth is now at an all time low, and there have been no incursions into the city for several years. According to Lalenth law, his children, regardless of legitimacy, have right of succession. However the General is distinctly unhappy with the thought of his bastard daughter taking control, feeling that this would discredit the house and leave it weak. His hope is to find a suitable husband for his daughter from the lower ranks of nobility. To do so would ensure the continuation of the name of Vishreon. Rakona does not look upon this plan favourably and the city’s gossips daily delight in stories of more young men knocked back by the lady. Blake Alacosts’ Guide to Lalenth Fashion: Even when at supper or patronising the theatre, the Vishreons never let you forget who they are. Military flourishes appear in all their dress and sleek leather and suede give some of their doublets the appearance of armour. Deep reds are combined with natural furs and leathers. This utilitarian look could be due to the lack of ladies in the house, but even Rakona spurns frills and flounces, preferring to go for close fitting garments that will not hamper her movement. She has even been seen wearing trousers to ride! It is a mercy that very few of Lalenth’s youth has chosen to follow this fashion! | |
