The Vishreon Family
Since time immemorial the Vishreons have been responsible for the defence of Lalenth and the organising of its militia. Their house is a granite mansion with a decorative portcullis and crenulations. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by displays of weapons, flags and models of battles. The servants snap to attention and a military precision is maintained in all things. Surrounded by all this military paraphernalia it is easy to forget that no-one in the Vishreon family has seen serious martial combat for over 200 years. Even then it was little more than tribal wars. However the Vishreons are responsible for the maintaining of the Lalenth Militia and the training of its members. As such they essentially are in charge of the maintenance of law and order in the city. This is a house dedicated to duty; to them the maintenance of peace is all and anything else is naught but distraction. Despite the crucial role they play in Lalenth, House Vishreon itself is in serious trouble. The bloodline is failing. The current ruling head of house shows the dire straights within which it finds itself. General Rakona Vishreon came to power less than a year ago. As well as being a woman (the first to rule since the House's founder), Rakona was also born a bastard and was only legitimised when her father died prematurely without any other issue. There was much dissention within the ranks of the militia at the idea of being led by an illegitimate female. Only her fiery, determined nature and evident ability has saved her. She herself has neither husband nor heir. As a young woman, she always proved hostile to suitors; sending many a young man running from a precisely aimed pistol. The only man she ever gave credence to was her cousin, Gregor Vishreon. This gentleman courted the Lady Rakona for half a year before abandoning her overnight in favour of Lady Isana Di Canto. Despite the best efforts of the lower members of both families, this has had unavoidable ramifications. Since the wedding of Lady Di Canto to Gregor, relations between the two great ladies has been decidedly strained making for several tense encounters within the Star Chamber. Despite this recent "disappointment" the General now knows that she must cast off her previous aversion and marry soon if her line and house are to survive. At present she has only one heir apparent: her cousin Gavren Vishreon, who happens to be Gregor's brother and as such is currently taking pains to prove his loyalty. He too is unmarried and heirless - another situation that the General is seeking to rectify at haste. Notable Members of House Vishreon General Rakona Vishreon: Head of House and Commander of the Militia Lord Gavren Vishreon: Rakona's cousin, Thread Weaver and heir apparent. Lady Galina Vishreon - "Lady Larksong": Gavren's sister. Erstwhile Laureate, sided with Lady Di Canto in the aforementioned affair and no longer welcome in the house. General Achran Vishreon (deceased): Rakona's father. | |
