By-laws

Regarding ascendancy: Titles and lands will pass to the eldest direct male heir. Only if no male heir survives will the eldest female child inherit. The only exception to this rule is the Di Canto family, in which the eldest female is heir apparent.

Regarding marriage: The couple will take the name of the male, unless the female is the direct heir to a noble house, in which case the male will take her name. To marry, a couple must present a marriage licence signed by both parties and their parents.

Regarding illegitimate offspring: A father is required to provide for his illegitimate offspring. The child will bear the prefix “Fitz” before the name, to demonstrate a severance from the house. Bastard children have no rights to the privileges of their parents; such privileges given are at the discretion of the father. Regardless of age this child will not inherit, unless they are the only remaining heir.

Regarding duelling: Duels are legal but must be witnessed by a wordsmith, an apothecary, a member of the Vishreon House and a Star Chamber Magistrate. No others may be present at the duel.

Regarding taverns: All public houses must not open before 11 o’clock in the morning and must cease trade before midnight. The only exception is at the Nevernight and Huntsworn Festival. Tavern Licenses are available from the Wordsmith’s Guild.

Regarding golem: Owners are responsible for their golem at all times. Unsupervised golem will incur a fine upon their owners of 60 gold leaves. All golem must bear the tattooed mark of their owner. All golem must be registered with the Star Chamber and have a licence purchased for them.

Regarding the carrying of weapons in Lalenth: Weapons may be carried however in the following areas you will be asked to remove them: The Star Chamber, The first and second circles. It is also bad form to carry a weapon into someone’s home. Obvious exceptions are the militia and members of the Great Six households. Certain ceremonies also require that a weapon be carried into these areas.

Regarding the detention of felons: Arrest warrants may only be issued by the Captains of the Arches or General Vishreon.

Regarding Urination in Lalenth: Please restrict your ablutions to designated latrines. Breaking this law will lead to severance of certain privileges. Perpetrators will be arrested and incarcerated in their current state of dress for three days.
